On September 25 at Le Chinois, Gonzaï plugs back in for a night where French electronic music stops choosing between brains and hip movements. Headlining: Rubin Steiner back at the machines and the Lyon-based trio Société Étrange, in club krautrock mode. A night to celebrate the start of summer with a tan line on the cortex.
Rubin Steiner (Fr - Tours)
Rubin Steiner, also known as Frédéric Landier, is one of those French electronic activists you don’t shelve without getting your hands dirty: since LO-FI NU JAZZ, released in 1998, he has traversed formats with the elegance of a DJ who has swallowed a disco, a modular synthesizer and a private joke. In 2026, he releases Wha would Brian Eno have done, his seventeenth album, released on April 18 by Platinum Record. Composed, performed, recorded and mixed by himself at Château du Plessis, the record carries the homage to Brian Eno, up to a cover of Golden Hours, while weaving cosmic exotica, oblique jazz, kraut references, and laboratory whimsy. Music with a scholarly bent that hasn’t forgotten where the ‘fun’ button is.
Société Étrange (Fr - Lyon)
Société Étrange is a Lyon-based trio: Antoine Bellini on electronics, Romain Hervault on bass, Jonathan Grandcollot on drums and machines, who have been moving for more than ten years in a zone where krautrock, instrumental trance and electronic music speak to each other without going through marketing. After Au Revoir and Chance, the group releases Heat on Les Disques Bongo Joe, Carton and Standard In-Fi. Seven tracks, no chorus, no folklore: cyclical structures, tempos slower than a sprint by Stephen Hawking, and a heavy warmth on the bass that turns repetition into landscape. Club music for people who still know how to look at the ceiling.
