Jordan Rakei comes to Berlin's Neue Welt on March 31, 2027 for a live show that will demonstrate why he has been in constant motion since Cloak. The New Zealand-born, London-based singer, multi-instrumentalist and producer thinks about soul, jazz and alternative R&B from the perspective of a beatmaker: warm harmonies, dry drums, fine electronic textures, and a voice that feels as direct as it is controlled.
With A Safe Place To Be Wild, Rakei opens a new chapter and deliberately works without fixed rules — closer to the spirit of his early bedroom productions, more open, personal, and at times edgier. Over six albums he has continually expanded his sound, ranging from neo-soul grooves to improvisation-heavy jazz moments to pop melodies and larger arrangements. His collaborations—including Loyle Carner, Tom Misch and Bonobo—also show how flexibly he moves between scenes. On stage, all of this comes together: precisely performed, with a tight-band feel, and yet with enough space for the songs to breathe.
