After many years of hiatus, Happy Mondays return to Berlin on 24 January 2027 at the Astra Kulturhaus. Having grown up in Manchester in the late 1980s, they — as a central figure of the Madchester era — relentlessly tore down the boundaries between indie, acid house, funk, psychedelia and rave. It is precisely this mix that keeps the sound instantly recognizable to this day: reeling guitars, driving grooves, laconic vocals, and that slightly chaotic party atmosphere that never feels polished.
The evening centers on their defining album Pills 'n' Thrills and Bellyaches, which brought them international breakthrough in the early 1990s. Therefore, many tracks from that era are likely to feature on the setlist—alongside classics like Step On, Kinky Afro, Loose Fit, or Hallelujah, which you not only know but instinctively toe-tap along to. A concert for everyone who experienced Madchester back then—and for all who later understood just how much this band has shaped the British dance-rock DNA.
