If the show’s name is still synonymous with mid-90s Britpop, Cast have always sat slightly to the side of the hype, with a cleaner indie-rock drive and a real sense of classic British pop songwriting. Led by John Power (ex The La’s), the Liverpool band built their reputation on sharp, melodic guitars, straight-to-the-point choruses, and that mix of urgency and warmth that made their early records stick.
From the breakout momentum of All Change (1995) through Mother Nature Calls and Magic Hour, Cast kept refining a sound that’s direct rather than flashy, carried by Liam “Skin” Tyson’s guitar lines and a rhythm section that knows when to push and when to leave space. After a split in the early 2000s, the band returned in the 2010s, still writing with the same instinct for punchy hooks, most recently on Love Is the Call (2024). Cast play New Century in Manchester on October 3, 2026.
