A Heart That Beats Beneath This Boyish Body
Samuel Bambi steps onto the stage as one does when entering an abandoned factory at midnight. The neon flickers, the machines cough rust, and he begins to talk to himself, simply to tell us that he is not a man but a machine. The line lands heavily, with that sly smile honed at the Jamel Comedy Club, which says it all and above all that he is not fooled.
A machine for seduction, a machine for laughter, he dismantles, in hyperactive mode, love and the world around us. Because he knows well that everything is a matter of contradictions, of complexity and absurdities, he is this machine that refuses to go in circles, simply because there is a heart beating beneath this boyish body and nothing scares him. So, conscientiously, he wields an adjustable wrench to patch our hearts together on the fly, and it feels good.
And when the lights come back on, we leave with one bolt fewer and a bigger smile.
