Genesis Owusu

Genesis Owusu is at Le Trabendo on 24 November 2026. Born in Ghana as Kofi Owusu-Ansah and raised in Canberra, he cultivates a sound at the crossroads of hip-hop, funk, post-punk, soul and an experimentally shifting pop. He came to prominence in the late 2010s, establishing himself with precise rhythmic phrasing, a back-and-forth between flow and sung vocals, and an aesthetic that blends rock-like tension, taut grooves and melodic choruses. His debut album, Smiling with No Teeth (2021), explores themes of identity, isolation and social relationships by alternating confrontational rap, lean funk and more dance-oriented passages. With STRUGGLER (2023), he pushes the fusion further—combining angular rock, danceable rhythms and spoken word—while maintaining a very physical approach to each song. Live, Genesis Owusu navigates these territories without confining himself, driven by a band energy that connects rap writing, pulse and pop formats. It’s an opportunity to capture a project in motion, up close to its stage dynamics.
