Info
On 18 March 2027, The Fisherman’s Friends play Aylesbury Waterside Theatre in Aylesbury. Formed in 1995 in Port Isaac, Cornwall, this vocal crew grew out of a shared life by the sea — fishing boats, lifeboats and the rhythms of the harbour. Their set is rooted in sea shanties and coastal songs, led by unison and close-harmony voices, mostly a cappella with occasional, understated folk accompaniment.
Their repertoire draws on work songs, forebitters and maritime ballads passed down through oral tradition, reshaped over time on stage and in the studio. Along the way they’ve taken these songs from their quayside beginnings to British folk festivals, and onto records like Port Isaac’s Fisherman’s Friends and One and All, with later releases linked to the films inspired by their story.
Live, the focus stays on collective vocals: call-and-response, rolling choruses and the easy camaraderie of a crew. The programme blends traditional shanties with material from across their albums and soundtrack projects, keeping the emphasis on voices, timing and the shared pulse of songs born at sea.
