This Is The Kit

This Is The Kit, the shape-shifting project led by Winchester-born singer, guitarist and banjo player Kate Stables, plays Clwb Ifor Bach in Cardiff on 7 July 2026. Since the mid-2000s, Stables has steered the band from intimate solo sketches to a group dynamic with allies like Rozi Plain, Neil Smith and Jamie Whitby-Coles. The music sits between folk rock and indie: fingerpicked acoustics and bright banjo patterns meeting rougher electric edges and slightly off‑kilter rhythms, carried by a voice with clear, direct phrasing.

The set draws on a catalogue shaped in Bristol and beyond: early single Two Wooden Spoons and Krülle Bol, produced by John Parish; Wriggle Out the Restless; Bashed Out with Aaron Dessner; then Moonshine Freeze, Off Off On and 2023’s Careful of Your Keepers on Rough Trade. On stage, songs tend to open slowly and tighten around subtle grooves, with arrangements that leave room for detail rather than weight. Along the way, This Is The Kit has toured with The National, Sharon Van Etten, Iron & Wine and Herman Dune, and earned steady play on BBC Radio 6 Music.
