Maruja

Maruja arrives at 16 Toneladas (València) on 26 August 2026 with a live set that blends post‑punk, free jazz and phrasing close to rap. Over taut breakbeats, looped guitars and an exploratory saxophone, the quartet builds pieces that grow in layers and flow into open jams. The vocals, more spoken than sung, address social and political matters directly, underpinned by a bass with a psychedelic pulse and a rhythm section that keeps the pressure on.

Formed in Manchester in the early 2020s, they have polished a raw, atmospheric live sound that plays with contrasts: repetitive riffs, heavy bass lines and bursts of saxophone converse with more restrained passages to stretch tension before releasing it. On stage the band functions as a cohesive unit, with a collective energy that invites improvisation and interaction from the audience. It’s a concert where noise-driven crossovers with a jazz spirit and punk punch are experienced up close—unadorned and with the emphasis firmly on the intensity of the moment.
