Bilal brings a blend of jazz-soaked neo-soul to The Pearl, Vancouver, on September 19, 2026. Raised on Philadelphia’s soul and jazz circuits before studying in New York, the vocalist and songwriter first surfaced with the Soulquarians and early features for The Roots and Common. Onstage he threads elastic vocals through R&B, funk and jazz harmonies, revisiting cuts from 1st Born Second, Airtight’s Revenge, A Love Surreal and In Another Life, with room for improvisation. Regular work with Robert Glasper, Erykah Badu and Kendrick Lamar also feeds a repertoire at the crossroads of R&B, jazz and funk.
Sharing the bill, Brooklyn’s Yaya Bey brings contemporary R&B that meets hip-hop cadences, soul and touches of reggae. Her songwriting is candid and reflective, focused on relationships, autonomy, memory and the lived realities of Black women. She shifts between spoken cadence and melody over warm, pared-back grooves. From The Many Alter-Egos of Trill’eta Brown and This Too... to Madison Tapes, The Things I Can’t Take With Me and Remember Your North Star, then Ten Fold and Do It Afraid, she traces a path through modern soul with a clear, personal voice.
