After 16 years as the frontwoman for Delain, Charlotte Wessels started releasing music under her own name in 2020. Her latest album, The Obsession, was released in 2024. Wessels had already made a mark with her earlier solo endeavors, Tales From Six Feet Under Vol. I (2021) and Vol. II (2022). These compilations of songs written, recorded, and produced in her basement home studio blend musical styles and personal lyrics. The Obsession builds on this foundation. While incorporating progressive influences, the album also marks a return to her symphonic metal roots. It features collaborations with former Delain bandmates Timo Somers (guitar), Otto Schimmelpenninck van der Oije (bass), and Joey Marin de Boer (drums), alongside pianist Sophia Vernikov and keyboardist/orchestrator Vikram Shankar. Guest vocalists include Simone Simons (Epica) and Alissa White-Gluz (Arch Enemy). The 2025 special edition added a duet with Asger Mygind (Vola).
