On 12 September 2026 at Bold Tendencies, London, Mozart’s Great Mass in C minor is performed under the baton of Tess Jackson. Written when Mozart was 27 and first heard at St Peter’s Church in Salzburg in 1783, the score survives in a fragmentary state that has intrigued musicians for decades. Its breadth calls for both precision and choral power. The Philharmonia Orchestra anchors the performance, joined by the Philharmonia Chorus as a double chorus of 80 singers. Soloists Olivia Warburton, Anita Monserrat, Daniel Vening and Liam Bonthrone take on the Mass’s solos and ensembles, from the opening Kyrie to the Gloria, tracing the work’s shifts between hushed supplication and jubilant proclamation. Tess Jackson leads these combined forces in a traversal that engages with the piece’s unfinished pages while letting its clear lines, contrapuntal drive and vocal writing speak for themselves.
