Song Artisan

Perhaps few remember. Perhaps many do not know. The first times we heard Márcia's voice, on record or in concert, were as part of an old-fashioned dance ensemble. It was her nostalgically tender voice that could be heard on the light, romantic tunes with which Real Combo Lisbonense staged a return to an era when Portuguese music showed tentative nods to twist, yé-yé and rock'n'roll. Songs that, at the time of their original creation, served as the soundtrack for dancing and for being a teenager in a country that tried to fool (for a few hours) the high walls rising around it. In 2008, when João Paulo Feliciano put together Real Combo Lisbonense, it was only the nostalgia for that music—as if freeing itself from a time that no longer exists—that one heard Márcia perform in "Sensatez" or "O Fado É Bom para Xuxú".

This is more or less where the most visible part of this story begins. Márcia had already had the typical first youthful experience on stage with the band Ana’s Blame. It was with that project that she took part in the compilation Bandas de Garagem in 2001; it was following that recording that the first invitations to join the catalogs of multinational record companies appeared, which quickly identified a raw talent.
