Info
On 29 October 2026, O2 Academy Oxford hosts Bad Manners with Rhoda Dakar for a night rooted in the UK’s ska and 2 Tone lineage.
Bad Manners formed in north London in the late 1970s around singer Buster Bloodvessel. With a line-up often driven by brass and keys, the band blends Jamaican ska, two-tone rhythms, light reggae and punchy pop hooks. Early singles like Lip Up Fatty and Special Brew set the blueprint, captured too in the 1981 concert film Dance Craze. Decades on, with Buster as the constant, Bad Manners keep the tempos brisk and the choruses direct; on stage they lean into the classic cuts while leaving room for later material.
Rhoda Dakar came up with The Bodysnatchers in 1979, close to the 2 Tone label, then worked with The Specials and The Special AKA. Her voice stands out on I Can’t Stand It, The Boiler and the album In the Studio, before a solo path that threads ska, reggae and English pop: Cleaning in Another Woman’s Kitchen, Rhoda Dakar Sings The Bodysnatchers, Version Girl. Live, she reconnects those chapters with a clear, front-foot delivery and pared-back arrangements.
