Marlon Funaki

Marlon Funaki brings his shape-shifting songwriting to The Lexington, London on 27 May 2026. Based in California, he blends alternative rock, psych hues and R&B soul with jazz-tinged guitar work, always keeping the melody at the center. The result is a supple psych-pop thread where gritty rock textures meet warmer grooves and clear, unhurried harmonies.

Of Japanese and Mexican-American heritage, Funaki keeps a hands-on approach, often writing, recording, mixing and finishing his tracks himself. He started on drums in a middle-school jazz band before teaching himself guitar, then put early demos on SoundCloud as a teenager. From house parties and warehouse shows, he grew into clubs and festivals across the US and the UK.

On stage, he favors feel over flash: chord colors, melodic lines and rhythmic turns that serve the song first. Along the way he has shared bills with Palace, opened for Billy Currington, and appeared at Luck Reunion, Okeechobee Music & Arts Festival and The Great Escape. Live, these songs lean into groove, texture and melody without losing their pop clarity.
