Metallica bring the M72 tour to London Stadium in Stratford on 5 July 2026, pour a set that cuts through four decades of heavy music. Formed in Los Angeles in 1981, the band forged the sound of thrash with early records like Kill ’Em All, Ride the Lightning and Master of Puppets, then widened the scope with the self-titled Black Album and later chapters from Load to Hardwired… to Self-Destruct. With 72 Seasons, the latest material slots next to staples built on sharp riffs, tight rhythms and a frontline built for big stages.
Pantera joins as special guests. Born from the Abbott brothers’ riff engine and steered by Phil Anselmo and Rex Brown, the group defined a heavier, groove-driven strain of metal with Cowboys from Hell, Vulgar Display of Power and Far Beyond Driven. Back on the road since 2022 with a lineup honoring that catalogue, they deliver mid-tempo punches, serrated riffs and a set focused on the era that made their name.
Opening the night, Sweden’s Avatar push a theatrical, modern metal blend. Between melodic hooks, heavier passages and a taste for eerie carnival imagery, their show moves from the melodeath roots of early years to the more direct impact heard on Black Waltz, Hail the Apocalypse and Dance Devil Dance.
