La Dispute

La Dispute bring their narrative post-hardcore to Chalk in Brighton on 16 June 2026. Formed in 2004 in Grand Rapids, Michigan, the band has carved a distinct voice at the meeting point of post-hardcore and emo. Led by Jordan Dreyer, they write like storytellers: spoken-word cadences over tense guitars and a rhythm section that fractures and recomposes the pulse. The debut Somewhere at the Bottom of the River Between Vega and Altair (2008) set the tone with a conceptual, intimate frame; Wildlife (2011) widened the scope into a suite of intersecting stories; Rooms of the House (2014) tightened the focus around domestic scenes and a more melodic grain. With Panorama (2019), they opened the space, letting longer builds and more air into arrangements while balancing talk-singing, shouts and sung lines. On stage, that attention to narrative and dynamics translates into a set that moves from hush to surge without losing the thread.
