Yellowman, Jamaican deejay and key voice of early dancehall, lands at Jazz Cafe in London on 5 July 2026 with the Upper Cut Band. Rising from Kingston’s sound systems at the turn of the 1980s, he shaped a direct, percussive toasting style over roots-derived riddims that pointed straight to the dancehall era. On stage, his clipped phrasing and playful call-and-response glide across reworked versions of classics drawn from a dense catalogue: think Mr. Yellowman, King Yellowman, or the unmistakable Zungguzungguguzungguzeng. Decades of recording and touring have only sharpened his timing and sense of groove, moving between vintage dancehall, digital reggae and more reflective cuts. Backed by the Upper Cut Band, he brings a set that leans into rhythm, clarity and the contagious bounce that made his voice a landmark in Jamaican music.
Danniella Dee joins the lineup for this London date at Jazz Cafe, adding her own touch to the evening and setting the stage around Yellowman’s return to the city.
