Alva Noto

Alva Noto, the alias of German artist Carsten Nicolai, lands at Button Factory, Dublin on 27 May 2026 with HYBR:ID UNI PARA, a live set where sound and image move as one. Rooted in microsound, glitch and ultra-reduced techno, his music builds from dry pulses, clipped noise and sine-bent tones, opening wide pockets of space that shape the room as much as the rhythm. On stage, these structures are tied to stark, precise visuals that trace the music’s geometry rather than illustrate it.

The performance draws from the HYbr:ID cycle—data-driven textures, granular detail, rhythmic abstraction—while folding in the beat-focused UNI trilogy (Unitxt, Univrs, Unieqav) and fresh sketches from PARA. Expect shifts between dense cinematic layers and tight percussive lattices, where sub-bass pressure, brittle clicks and long drones lean into and away from each other with surgical timing.

From his Raster-Noton years to collaborations with Ryuichi Sakamoto, Nicolai has honed a language of restraint and impact. HYBR:ID UNI PARA brings that vocabulary into a concentrated, physical mix tailored to the scale of a live room, all measured lines and controlled tension.
