Freak Slug

On 3 September 2026 at The Grand Social in Dublin, Freak Slug steps on stage with the singular pop lens of Manchester-based artist Xenya Genovese. She uses this alias as a narrative frame to explore identity, pop imagery and internet codes, first sketched through early singles and short formats: Videos (2021) — featuring Radio, now past 13 million streams — then I’m In Love (2022) and Viva La Vulva (2023). In 2024 she widened the scope with I Blow Out Big Candles, a first long format designed as an extension of her world, where sound, voice and visuals are built as a single piece rather than a collection of standalone tracks.

Trained in fine arts and self-taught in music, Genovese treats songwriting, clips, narration and iconography as one practice. Her material leans on cultural collage and autofiction, mixes millennial symbols with pop references, and folds in humor and a frank sense of physicality. After a live turn in 2025 that included SXSW and a run across the UK and Europe, Freak Slug brings an evolving set that draws from across her catalogue and the visual language that shapes it, ready for The Grand Social in Dublin.
