On 26 February 2027, TivoliVredenburg in Utrecht will host a triple dose of melodic metal: The Halo Effect, Lacuna Coil and Omnium Gatherum sharing the bill.
The Halo Effect comes from Gothenburg and brings together former members of In Flames around singer Mikael Stanne (Dark Tranquillity). Their approach harkens back to the city’s melodic death metal sound: angular, tight riffs, prominent melodies and a dark undercurrent. Singles like “Shadowminds” and the album Days of the Lost (2022) form the backbone of a set that alternates between brisk drive and mid‑tempo passages, with choruses that stick without sacrificing aggression.
From Milan, Lacuna Coil deliver the characteristic interplay between Cristina Scabbia’s clear vocals and Andrea Ferro’s rougher voice. Straddling gothic and alternative metal, they weave melody and heavier textures together, drawing on material from Comalies and Karmacode to Comalies XX (2022) and Sleepless Empire (2025). That duality fuels songs that are dark in tone but aimed at immediate impact.
Omnium Gatherum, from Kotka, Finland, lay melancholy and progressive touches over melodic death metal. With Markus Vanhala as the band’s fulcrum and Jukka Pelkonen on vocals, they mix rapid rhythms, atmospheric keyboards and expansive guitar lines; albums such as The Burning Cold and Origin (2021) map their direction. Three perspectives on melodic extremes, brought together in Utrecht.
