André Rieu und sein Johann Strauss Orchester

On 28 January 2027 André Rieu, together with his Johann Strauss Orchestra, will bring the waltz tradition to the Barclaycard Arena in Hamburg. The violinist and conductor, born in Maastricht in 1949, founded his orchestra in 1987 and has toured internationally with it ever since. The program blends Johann Strauss arrangements with operetta numbers, film music, popular songs and accessible classical pieces. Rieu guides the evening, alternating between conducting and playing the violin, and relies on a direct, dance-friendly orchestral sound that brings the melodies to the fore. Characteristic features include guest appearances by singers and a choir, as well as open interaction with the audience. Between waltz, aria and film tune the moods and tempos shift, solos emerge, and refrains invite the audience to hum along. The focus is clearly on melodic flow and familiar themes, presented in a concert format that combines intimacy and entertainment with orchestral precision.
