Fruit Bats

Fruit Bats bring Eric D. Johnson’s long-running indie folk project to the Commodore Ballroom in Vancouver on October 12, 2026. Launched in Chicago in 1997, the band moves between indie folk, indie rock and light psychedelic shades, built around Johnson’s songwriting and a flexible lineup. Early albums Echolocation (2001) and Mouthfuls (2003) set a clear direction with acoustic guitars, vocal harmonies and melodic lines that leave room to breathe. After a pause, Spelled in Bones (2009) and Tripper (2011) widened the palette while keeping the song at the center.

Alongside Fruit Bats, Johnson has circulated through the American indie scene, notably with The Shins, before steering the project into a new run with Absolute Loser (2016), Gold Past Life (2019), The Pet Parade (2021) and A River Running to Your Heart (2023). On stage, the group leans into a clear, organic sound where folk melodies, soft-rock rhythms and discreet psych details meet, drawing across this catalog without fuss or excess.
