Joep Beving

Joep Beving lands at The Great Hall in Toronto on October 13, 2026. The Dutch composer and pianist has carved out a clear voice between neoclassical, minimalism and ambient, writing for solo piano with slow tempos, repeating figures and uncluttered harmonies. His playing is quiet and precise, leaving space for silence and the natural resonance of the instrument. After self-releasing Solipsism in 2015, he followed with Prehension in 2017, then Henosis in 2019 and Hermetism in 2022, albums that marked his move to Deutsche Grammophon. His pieces often appear on screen, yet they keep melody at the center and unfold with a steady, unforced pace. On stage, Beving performs in recital or occasionally widens the scope with collaborators like Echo Collective, cellist-composer Maarten Vos or the choir Cappella Amsterdam. In a solo setting, the focus stays on touch, the decay of notes and the gradual shift of patterns, sometimes framed by subtle lighting created with artists Nick Verstand and Boris Acket.
