Turbo Sonidero

Major Tom welcomes Mexican record digger and producer Turbo Sonidero on Wednesday, April 16 at Ground Control for a vinyl DJ set.

Turbo Sonidero is a link between the music of Puebla’s barrios (neighborhoods) and the avant-garde of electronic music. Originally from the East Side of San José, Zepeda spent nearly twenty years evolving, moving from vinyl collector to producer.

His style — a fusion of cumbia sonidera, rap aesthetics, and experimental electronic music — has helped reposition cumbia on the international underground scene.

Since 2008, Turbo Sonidero has developed a community. As founder of the Kumbia Obscura/Kumbia Net collective and the Discos Piramide label, he has built infrastructure for the genre, supporting emerging talent in Mexico and beyond through vinyl and cassette releases.

He will bring vinyl records. Meet between 6:00 and 8:00 PM.
