Info
On 23 May 2026 at the Triton, Géraldine Laurent’s alto meets Louis Sclavis’s clarinets and soprano sax in a moving face-to-face. Two voices of French jazz reunited in a format that leaves room for ideas and for listening.
Since the early 2000s Géraldine Laurent has developed an alto language rooted in bebop and post‑bop, guided by spare writing and a clear sense of rhythmic propulsion. Whether in trio, quartet or as a guest, she favors direct exchange, memorable melodies and lively transitions between theme and chorus. Her incisive sound and fluid phrasing shape a precise musical statement, attentive to others as much as to the line.
Louis Sclavis, clarinetist, bass clarinetist and soprano saxophonist, plays on the border between free jazz, chamber music and folk traditions. His work combines open composition, counterpoint and collective dynamics, with particular attention to timbre. In duo settings he lets motifs circulate, unfolds the frameworks and seeks accord in the moment.
Together at the Triton they open up a playing field where the alto’s song and Sclavis’s woodwinds entwine, leave space and set off rebounds. A present, pared‑down conversation, sustained by listening and improvisation.
