Laurent de Wilde Trio

Laurent de Wilde returns as a trio on April 25, 2026, at the Sunset Sunside in Paris. A French pianist born in Washington and having spent time in New York in the 1980s, he has developed a language rooted in the piano-trio tradition, steeped in bop and hard bop, which he now opens up to looser forms and repetitive rhythmic motifs. At the core, improvisation remains the driving force, with a taste for clear themes and precise turns—Monk never far away.

Around him, his regular trio brings together Jérôme Regard on double bass and Donald Kontomanou on drums. The rhythm section lays down a supple, mobile foundation, conducive to responsive phrasing and close-knit interplay. Together they move between original compositions and carefully chosen reinterpretations, favoring clarity of sound and collective listening.
