Xiu Xiu - Eraserhead (MICELI Festival Prelude)

Xiu Xiu brings to Barcelona a live performance inspired by David Lynch’s Eraserhead. Jamie Stewart’s project, now joined by Angela Seo, reconfigures its usual resources — taut synthesizers, dry percussion, measured noise and melodies that appear and fade — into a set that engages with Lynch’s universe. It is not new ground for the group: they have previously revisited the music of Twin Peaks, and here they once again tighten the balance between pop and experimentation, with unsettling atmospheres, industrial pulses and voices that cut through the silence.

Formed in California in the early 2000s, Xiu Xiu moves between indie rock, art pop, post-punk, minimal electronics and noise, with songs that fall apart and recombine over drones, feedback and skeletal rhythms. This approach suits the dreamlike starkness of Eraserhead, unfolding a soundscape built in layers, clashes of texture and abrupt turns.
