Syd Matters

Since End & Start Again in 2003, Syd Matters, the project of Jonathan Morali, has laid the groundwork for a hushed, velvet-like folk, with clear harmonies and melodies that settle in gently. Four albums followed, and songs such as Black & White Eyes, Obstacles, To All Of You and I Might Float accompanied a generation. On stage, Morali and his musicians play on the tension between expansive electric elements and acoustic fragility, with hazy arrangements and restrained vocals that draw the ear. At the same time, Morali has composed for film, theatre and video games, notably the soundtrack for Life Is Strange.

Syd Matters returns to perform on 30 October 2026 at Rock School Barbey in Bordeaux. The bill will feature new songs alongside older tracks, performed without embellishment, with the attention to detail that gives the group its coherence. Guitars, keyboards, discreet backing vocals and electronic textures create atmospheres that sit between intimate folk and dreamy pop. It’s an opportunity to rediscover a repertoire that has matured without losing its sense of direction.
