Cem Adrian

On April 12, 2026, Cem Adrian will perform at Maassilo in Rotterdam. The Turkish singer-songwriter of Bosnian descent moves between alternative pop, experimental music and intimate songcraft. He began as a radio producer and singer, was noticed in the early 2000s by pianist Fazıl Say, and subsequently studied as a “special student” at the Bilkent Conservatory in Ankara. His debut Ben Bu Şarkıyı Sana Yazdım (2005), born of years of home recordings, laid the foundation: dark ballads, traces of Anatolian folk, electronic touches and chamber-music atmospheres. With Aşk Bu Gece Şehri Terk Etti (2006) and Emir (2008) he carried that thread forward into more structured compositions in which spare acoustic arrangements, ambient textures and moments bordering on jazz vocal coexist. Since then he has alternated studio albums and concept projects with collaborations from the Turkish classical and jazz scenes. Live, he often chooses small ensembles that place the voice and songwriting front and center and narrow the distance with the audience. The focus here is on nuance, dynamics and texture—direct and unadorned.
