The Boxer Rebellion

On 18 March 2026 The Boxer Rebellion will play at Maassilo in Rotterdam. The London-based alternative rock band led by singer and multi-instrumentalist Nathan Nicholson has been cultivating its own sound since the early 2000s: melodic layers of guitar, patient arcs of tension, and a voice with a melancholic edge. From debut Exits (2005) through Union (2009)—originally released digitally—then The Cold Still (2011, produced by Ethan Johns) and Promises (2013), the quartet moved from raw indie toward clearer, more open arrangements without losing its introspective core. With Ocean by Ocean (2016) and Ghost Alive (2018) their palette grew even more atmospheric, creating more room for nuance and dynamics. On stage the band applies that same layering: quiet openings swell into expansive choruses, guitars and rhythms give and take space, and the vocals pull the songs toward the emotional heart of the set. Expect a programme drawing on their entire catalogue, from early favourites to later records, performed with a focus on texture and gradual build.
