MEROL

MEROL, the alter ego of Merel Baldé (1991, Dordrecht), delivers Dutch-language pop with an electronic pulse, retro synths and a touch of cabaret. Based in Amsterdam, she evolved from a theatre and screen actress into a songwriter with a direct writing voice. With singles like “Lekker met de meiden” she set the tone in the late 2010s: candid, humorous and incisive in her observations of everyday life. Themes such as gender roles, intimacy, partying and social pressure acquire a subtle tension in her hands, driven by tight beats and choruses that stick immediately. Her debut album Troostprijs (2022) continues along that line and occasionally shifts the spotlight toward greater introspection, without losing her stage presence. Live, MEROL leans on timing and attitude drawn from the theatre; the performance is playful, rhythmic and to the point. On 31 October 2026 she performs at SPOT/De Oosterpoort in Groningen, with a set that brings her blend of synthpop, humour and honesty to the dance floor.
