Paul Simon: A Quiet Celebration

On April 22, 2026, AFAS Live in Amsterdam will be dedicated to Paul Simon: A Quiet Celebration, an evening devoted to the songs and the craft of the American songwriter. Simon broke through in the 1960s with Simon & Garfunkel and, from the early 1970s, pursued a solo career with music that blends folk, pop and rock and is always rooted in storytelling, attention to detail and melody. From the 1980s he broadened his palette with influences from South Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean. Albums such as Paul Simon, There Goes Rhymin’ Simon and Still Crazy After All These Years laid the groundwork; with Graceland and The Rhythm of the Saints he explored richer rhythms and new harmonies. Subsequent releases include You’re the One, Surprise, So Beautiful or So What, Stranger to Stranger, In the Blue Light and the recent Seven Psalms. A Quiet Celebration explores that catalog in an understated setting: from acoustic narratives to rhythmic favorites, with lyrics and melody front and center.
