Info

Metalheadz, founded in 1994 by Goldie and Kemistry & Storm, is one of the most iconic labels in the history of Drum’n’Bass. Born out of the British underground rave scene of the early ’90s, the label played a decisive role in the development of our favourite genre. The distinctive Metalheadz sound has repeatedly been pioneering around the globe—always a little different, but above all deep, experimental and absolutely club-ready. Hardly any other label conveys a comparable sense of futurism and uncompromising belief in progress. Goldie, Loxy and Conrad Subs are three true heavyweights from the Metalheadz cosmos who, together with our Recycle residents N’Dee and MC Jamie White as well as Dirty Plates from the Reflective Sounds Crew, guarantee a thorough dismantling of the dancefloor.

Goldie was not only a co‑founder of Metalheadz but also set benchmarks in Drum’n’Bass. His first releases as Rufige Kru appeared in 1992, including tracks like “Killa Muffin” and “Krisp Biscuit” and the EP “Dark Rider.” That same year he achieved his definitive breakthrough in the jungle scene with “Terminator.” The track was revolutionary because it was among the first to consistently use time‑stretching techniques, pointed the way to a darker, more restless sound, and left a lasting mark on the genre. His debut album Timeless (1995) is one of the releases that made Goldie and Drum’n’Bass known worldwide. Goldie’s sets regularly push the boundaries between classic Drum’n’Bass, orchestral depth and unexpected breaks—each track a small chapter of a larger musical story.

Having appeared on pirate radios such as Eruption FM and Underground FM and serving as a resident at legendary London raves like Desire and Thunder & Joy, Loxy helped shape the jungle and Drum’n’Bass scene from the very beginning. In the ’90s he became a firm fixture at Metalheadz and Renegade Hardware. At club nights in cult venues like Blue Note and The End he played the rawest, darkest dubplates—no wonder he’s nicknamed the “Grim Reaper.” After Loxy and 2Shy performed at The End, it was one of the toughest challenges DJs had to face at the time. He remains true to that reputation today: tracks like “Dunn’s River Falls” or “Astral Solitude” convey the same dark, hypnotic vibe familiar from his legendary Metalheadz and Renegade Hardware sets.

Conrad Subs, DJ and producer from Ipswich, combines classic jungle and Drum’n’Bass sensibilities with contemporary production aesthetics. Take his 2025 album For Emergency Use Only: the tracks pick up the raw, driving sound of the early ’90s—breaks, basslines and atmospheric elements that come straight from the old‑school scene—and translate them into modern arrangements: clear, punchy drums, sophisticated sound design and energetic mixing. His back catalogue is packed with releases on scene‑defining labels, including Metalheadz, Hospital Records, Ram Records and Doc Scott’s 31 Recordings.

There’s eight years of deviate to celebrate in Box2—don’t miss it, the line‑up is wild.
