SWMRS + Guest

Born in Oakland’s punk scene, SWMRS was built around brothers Cole and Max Becker, active since the mid-2000s and having passed through Emily’s Army before permanently adopting this name. The band refines a mix of punk rock, surf rock and alternative rock: bright guitars, urgent tempos, catchy choruses, with lyrics that address adolescence, internet culture and everyday life shaped by American politics. On record, Drive North (2016) lays the foundations and asserts a DIY aesthetic inherited from the San Francisco Bay. Berkeley’s on Fire (2019) broadens the spectrum toward indie rock and sharpens the social focus, while the early albums released under their former name, Don’t Be a Dick (2011) and Lost at Seventeen (2013), mark their initial pop-punk phase. On stage, SWMRS draws from these different periods and performs in close alignment with the codes of the independent venues that raised them, between the United States and Europe.
