Anthrax, New York pillars of the genre alongside the other Big Four, bring riff‑driven urgency and a shouted, hook‑ready edge shaped by hardcore punk as much as classic metal. With albums from Spreading the Disease and Among the Living to the later Worship Music and For All Kings, they thread social themes and pop‑culture nods into songs built to bounce without losing bite.
From the Bay Area, Exodus channels the raw side of thrash under Gary Holt and Tom Hunting, heirs to Bonded by Blood and the run that followed into Persona Non Grata.
