Info

Dry Cleaning bring their taut, minimalist post-punk to The Concert Hall in Toronto on May 1, 2026. Formed in South London at the end of the 2010s, the quartet pairs Florence Shaw’s spoken delivery with Tom Dowse’s angular guitar, Lewis Maynard’s bass and Nick Buxton’s drums. First an instrumental project, the band found its voice when Shaw’s detached narration and cut-up texts — lifted from conversations, ads and online scraps — slipped into the mix.

On stage, Dry Cleaning work with repetition, wiry riffs and small shifts in texture that leave space for words to sit upfront. The two 2019 EPs, Sweet Princess and Boundary Road Snacks and Drinks, set the tone; New Long Leg (2021), recorded with John Parish, stretched structures and sharpened the grain; Stumpwork (2022) pushed contrasts between slow grooves, discreet melodies and fragmented storytelling. The set leans into that balance of pulse and language, where the rhythm section holds steady while guitar lines and voice sketch out everyday scenes with dry precision.
