The Miserable Rich

The Miserable Rich return to the stage with new songs from their fourth album—their first in a decade. The material, born of hard times and held together by long friendships, finds the Brighton ensemble functioning like a small string group: vocals at the heart, violin, cello and double bass as the foundation, with guitar and restrained percussion shaping the space rather than filling it. Formed in the mid-2000s around singer James de Malplaquet and cellist William Calderbank, they steer folk songwriting toward chamber-pop, favouring clear melodies, close dynamics and arrangements that breathe.

In performance they emphasise acoustic textures and narrative detail, letting songs move from a hush to fuller swells without losing intimacy. The new material traces a path from rupture to repair and sits alongside earlier work from Twelve Ways To Count, Of Flight & Fury and Miss You In The Days. The Miserable Rich bring this comeback to the Elfer in Frankfurt am Main on 27 March 2026.
