Black Sea Dahu

On October 28, 2026 at Le Brise Glace in Annecy, Black Sea Dahu returns with its chiaroscuro folk. Born in Zurich around singer-songwriter Janine Cathrein, the project brings together a close-knit core of collaborators in a flexible lineup, somewhere between a band and a collective. At its heart is patient songwriting: songs that breathe, a deep voice that traces the line, supported by subdued guitars, strings and a discreet rhythmic backbone, oscillating between acoustic indie folk and hints of Americana.

From White Creatures (2018) and the EP No Fire In The Sand to I Am My Mother (2022), which opened the door to more electric textures and broader structures, the group has been refining a sound both stripped-back and filled out by vocal harmonies. On stage, Black Sea Dahu presents its material in variable configurations—from pared-down sets to expanded formations—without losing the intimacy of the songs. In Annecy, the material is there to cover the full spectrum, from the whispered to the denser, with that attention to detail that holds each piece together.
