On 20 September 2026, Ásgeir will be at Le Transbordeur in Villeurbanne. A leading figure in Icelandic folk-pop, he has, since Dýrð í dauðaþögn, followed a course that blends acoustic ballads, electronic touches and ambient atmospheres. Also introduced to English-speaking audiences with In the Silence, he explored that blend on Afterglow, Bury the Moon / Sátt and Time On My Hands, alternating between Icelandic and English and cultivating a spare, stripped-back songwriting style. One can hear influences as varied as Leonard Cohen and Daniel Lanois alongside more recent artists like Adrianne Lenker or Dina Ögon.

In recent years he has favored solo formats in intimate venues that leave plenty of room for his voice and melodies. His new album, Julia, due 13 February 2026, refocuses the songwriting on melody and universal themes: relationships, the passing of time, hope and nostalgia. On stage, expect a programme that draws from his entire repertoire as well as his new material, with acoustic guitars, discreet keyboards and slow rhythms serving songs with pared-down arrangements.
