Anthrax and Mastodon will meet on June 30, 2026 at the Bikini in Ramonville-Saint-Agne. Formed in 1981 in New York, Anthrax made its mark in the first wave of thrash metal with crisp riffs, a knack for chant-like choruses, and an energy drawn as much from hardcore as from classic heavy metal. Spreading the Disease, Among the Living and Persistence of Time established them firmly, while their cover of “Antisocial” and the collaboration with Public Enemy on “Bring the Noise” broadened their audience. Sound of White Noise (1993) marked a heavier turn and massive success, followed by a period of change. The band regained momentum with the Big Four tour in 2009, Joey Belladonna’s return, and a strong resurgence on Worship Music (2011) and For All Kings (2016).
Mastodon, formed in Atlanta in 2000, moves between sludge, extreme metal and progressive architectures. The quartet honed a dense, narrative language on Leviathan (2004), inspired by Moby-Dick, then pushed their constructions further on Crack the Skye (2009). The Hunter (2011) and Once More ’Round the Sun (2014) opened up more direct choruses without abandoning rhythmic complexity, while Emperor of Sand (2017) and Hushed and Grim (2021) combine textured heaviness, layered guitars and shared vocal duties. Live, the interplay between melody and tension makes the difference.
