Info
The Japanese-American songwriter Mitski Miyawaki writes songs where movement, identity and loneliness intersect. Trained at the SUNY Purchase Conservatory of Music, she self-released her first records, Lush (2012) and Retired from Sad, New Career in Business (2013), with a bedroom-pop bent. With Bury Me at Makeout Creek (2014) she moved toward more direct indie rock and pop with lo-fi edges. She then released Puberty 2 (2016) and Be the Cowboy (2018) on Dead Oceans: compact structures, sharp guitars and synths that tightly outline the melodies. Laurel Hell (2022) and The Land Is Inhospitable and So Are We (2023) continue that line, balancing spare ballads with fuller arrangements, with songwriting that remains intimate.
On stage Mitski translates those songs with an electric band and a pared-down scenography that emphasizes the tension in her songs. On May 9, 2026 she will play Forest National in Forest, Belgium. A chance to hear recent work and older tracks in a large hall, with a focus on songwriting and contrasts in dynamics.
