Joseph Arthur

Info

Joseph Arthur will stop at the Théâtre de l’Œuvre in Marseille on April 1, 2026. Born in Akron, Ohio, the singer-songwriter has been weaving a folk-rock sound since the 1990s that blends acoustic guitars, loops and introspective lyrics. Discovered by Peter Gabriel, he debuted on Real World with Big City Secrets in 1997, then followed with Come to Where I’m From (2000) and Redemption’s Son (2002), where melancholic ballads and more electric detours took shape. He went on to release Our Shadows Will Remain (2004) and Nuclear Daydream (2006) before founding his label Lonely Astronaut to pursue more independent production: The Graduation Ceremony (2011), The Ballad of Boogie Christ (2013), The Family (2016) and Come Back World (2019).

On stage, Arthur moves between guitar, live sampling and a visual stage presence informed by his work as a painter. He is also involved in collaborative projects that have broadened his palette: Fistful of Mercy with Ben Harper and Dhani Harrison, RNDM with Jeff Ament, and Arthur Buck with Peter Buck. In Marseille, he brings this blend of intimate songwriting and hypnotic textures to the Théâtre de l’Œuvre, 1 rue Mission de France.
