Arat Kilo, a Parisian collective nourished by ethio-jazz and groove culture, unfolds a wide sound in which brass riffs, guitar and vintage keyboards interlock over a steady bass-and-drum groove. The music moves in spirals, between the pulses of Addis and afro-funk hues, with bursts of hip-hop and dub touches that give the pieces room to breathe. On stage, the band plays the interaction, lets motifs breathe and opens space for guest voices.
With Mamani Keïta, the palette acquires Sahelian shades. Her voice, supple and luminous, glides from Bambara to French, carving clean melodic lines and steering Arat Kilo’s motifs toward Bamako. At her side, Mike Ladd, American poet and MC, brings an angular spoken-word, a measured flow that locks onto the offbeats and slots into the group's loops. The dialogue between voice and instruments establishes a calm tension, between incantation, groove and storytelling.
