Rex Orange County

Born Alexander O'Connor and hailing from Grayshott in Hampshire, England, Rex Orange County began developing a distinctive writing voice from adolescence at the crossroads of bedroom pop, indie pop, soft rock, jazz, and a melodically oriented hip-hop often treated in a lo-fi manner. Trained notably at the BRIT School, he started by releasing solo Bcos U Will Never B Free in 2015, a debut album circulated online that laid the foundations of his style, balancing relaxed vocals, supple keyboards, guitar, and homemade arrangements. Rex Orange County later gained visibility with Apricot Princess in 2017, at the moment his contribution to Tyler, the Creator's Flower Boy on the tracks "Boredom" and "Foreword" established him in an alternative pop scene open to crossovers between rap, soul and indie. His trajectory continued with Pony in 2019, then Who Cares? in 2022, where his writing became more direct and his productions more expansive without abandoning an intimate approach to songwriting. In 2024, Rex Orange County released The Alexander Technique, which extended this evolution with a sound still centered on melodies, rhythmic variation, and a flexible approach to blending orchestrated pop, light funk and introspective ballads. On stage, Rex Orange County alternates between venues and major festivals, in a repertoire that rests as much on vocal spontaneity as on the precision of his compositions.
