Dragonland

Formed in Sweden in 1999 around Jonas Heidgert and Nicklas Magnusson, Dragonland belongs to the Scandinavian power metal wave of the early 2000s with a fast, melodic and highly narrative songwriting style, enhanced by symphonic arrangements and neoclassical touches. After the demo Storming Across Heaven (2000), Dragonland released The Battle of the Ivory Plains (2001) and Holy War (2002), two albums that establish the fantasy universe of the Dragonland Chronicles. The band then evolved its formula on Starfall (2004) and Astronomy (2006), where Elias Holmlid’s keyboards become more prominent and the imagination expands to other settings—fantasy, ancient Egypt and science fiction. This period features several guest appearances, including Tom S. Englund, Henrik Danhage, Elize Ryd and Marios Iliopoulos. After a long gap in releases, Dragonland returned with Under the Grey Banner (2011), which picks up the saga, and later with The Power of the Nightstar (2022), an album outside that cycle. Despite lineup changes, Dragonland remains centered on Jonas Heidgert, Olof Mörck and Elias Holmlid.
