Info
On May 29, 2027, Steel Pulse lands at the Zenith in Paris to celebrate 50 years of career, and to remind why British reggae found in them a voice of its own. Born in 1975 in Handsworth, Birmingham, around David 'Dread' Hinds and Selwyn Brown, the band formed in the wake of Rock Against Racism, at the crossroads of reggae and punk scenes: a taut roots rhythm section, carefully crafted vocal harmonies, and lyrics that address racism, inequality, diaspora, and resistance.
On stage, you find this blend that has become their hallmark, between the rigour of roots and forays into rock, R&B, or soul. From Handsworth Revolution and Tribute to the Martyrs to 80s records like True Democracy, Earth Crisis, or Babylon the Bandit (which earned a Grammy Award), Steel Pulse rolls out a repertoire tailored for the live setting, propelled by classics such as Rally Round the Flag, Roller Skates, Stepping Out, and Bodyguard. An anniversary concert that is experienced as a reminder: reggae can be danceable while staying true to its substance.
