Our monthly series at Vortex for the EFG London Jazz Festival brings together voices in contemporary songwriting, hosted by Matthew Herd. Lily Lyons joins us this month for a London Jazz Festival special.
Lily Lyons
Raised between London and Somerset, Lily Lyons blends tender folk influences with emotionally incisive songwriting, creating songs that feel both intimate and quietly defiant. Inspired by artists such as Joni Mitchell, Nick Drake and Big Thief, Lily writes with a balance of softness and strength. Her work is rooted in honesty and human connection, embracing contradiction: joy alongside grief, tenderness alongside anger, stillness alongside emotional intensity.
Her debut album, “Re-Open the World” was released in 2025 and was closely followed by a live album recorded at St Matthias Church in Dalston.
