Phren is Marta Salogni and Stefano Pilia’s first collaborative work: six movements that unfold as a hymn-like, layered sonic dialogue between Stefano’s abstract guitar work and Marta’s manipulation of analogue tape recorders.
Conceived together with the imagined space designed by Sarah Mazzetti for the Opale series (Maple Death Records × Canicola), the album explores memory not as an archive but as living matter in constant transformation. Phren engages with the practices of Éliane Radigue, Philip Jeck, Pauline Oliveros, and Harry Partch, sharing an affinity for resonance, duration, and tuning, while following its own path.
Like the imaginary structure that emerges from the Venetian lagoon, Phren creates a space in which sound can gather, reflect, and transform: a listening space where each track becomes the beginning of something else.
