On June 5, 2027, Alexis Ffrench will come to De Doelen in Rotterdam for a piano concert that moves smoothly between contemporary classical, neoclassical, and the warm edge of soul and R&B. His idea of 'Classical Soul' lies not in grand gestures, but in a direct melodic language: repeating motifs, soft tension-building arcs, and harmonies that linger, as if you're listening to a wordless song. Central to it is his project 24: twenty-four short compositions that together follow the arc of a single day. Not a complicated concept, but a sequence of scenes that revolve around ordinary, personal moments: getting started, the bustle, the quiet in between, and the evening's unfolding. Live, that approach comes even closer: Ffrench performs with a sung touch and leaves space for breath, making each piece feel like a small memory in real time.
